ROBERT KOCHARIAN: ARMENIAN-RUSSIAN RELATIONS SHOULD BE BASED ON ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP
Saturday Armenian President Robert Kocharian met with Chairman of Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of Russia Sergey Mironov, who was in Yerevan within the framework of a formal call October 1-2. As reported by the press service of the Armenian leader, during the conversation R. Kocharian highly evaluated the Armenian-Russian strategic partnership. Having noted that the talks held with the Armenian leaders were useful, Sergey Mironov mentioned that special attention is paid to the fight against terror, consolidation of efforts of the international community in the fight against that evil. Mentioning that the current phase of Armenian-Russian relations is marked by strengthening mutually profitable economic cooperation, the Armenian President said that bilateral relations should be based on the economic partnership. R. Kocharian also emphasized the importance of intensification of the activities of the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation. In the course of the meeting the parties also accentuated the need of expand direct relations and cooperation between individual administrative subjects of Armenia and Russia, as well as the importance of inter-parliamentary contacts within international organizations. During the talks problems, referring to the Russian party closing Verkhni Lars check-point at the Georgian-Russian border, specifically the following accumulation of Armenian cargo there, were discussed.
