Turkey does not deserve either European Union membership or starting talks on the matter. Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian told RFE/RL yesterday. In his words, when comparing Turkey's position with EU member states or those preparing to accession to the organization, according to the economic development, level of establishment of democratic principles and relations with neighbors it is significantly behind them. He said he hoped for the EU-Turkey talks to concern Armenia-Turkey relations, opening the Armenian-Turkish border and acknowledgement of the Armenian Genocide.
