Gaultier to unveil cinema-inspired collection at Haute Couture show

Jean Paul Gaultier will continue his love affair with film when he unveils his fall/winter 2012-2013 collection in Paris at a July 4 show, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The designer showed up fashionably late to the opening night of the Paris Cinema Festival just before a screening of Leos Carax’ Cannes Competition title Holy Motors to watch the film for a second time.

“I’m right in the middle of getting my couture collection ready, but I loved the film in Cannes so much that I wanted to see it again under different conditions than when I was on the jury,” he explained to THR. “Plus, this is the official premiere, and Kylie [Minogue] is here too. I like her a lot, so it’s great to see her again.”

While his sleepless night of jury duty may be over, the designer is hard at work planning his anticipated runway show, and he told THR that it was influenced by movies. “My collection was inspired by the cinema - as always,” he said. “It nourishes me.”

It has been a good week for Gaultier whose perfume Kokorico was among the big winners at Tuesday’s perfumerie prize ceremony, the Fifi Awards.

Gaultier will unveil his new collection on July 4 at an early afternoon show in Paris’ trendy third district.

“It’s my first time here,” Gaultier said of his unexpected appearance at the Paris film festival given that Paris’ haute couture Fashion Week begins over the weekend, but added that he is looking forward to some discoveries at the festival.
