FORMATION OF INDEPENDENT KURDISTAN POSSIBLE, IRAQI FM CONSIDERS
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zibari stated that Baghdad to all appearance can do little to prevent the creation of a Kurdish state in the north of the country after the January election, Kurdistan.ru portal reported it yesterday. Mr. Zibari, who is also member of the Democratic Party of Kurdistan (DPK) said that it will be better for Iraq, which will become a democratic country after the election, if it lets its citizens to determine their fate themselves. "Iraq is a democratic and free country and nothing is prescribed for its future." The site also cites Peter Galbraith, the former US Ambassador to Croatia, who stated on the air of the Swedish TV December 18: "My experience, gained in the Balkans, tells me that it is impossible to keep a country from collapsing if various ethnic groups do not wish it."
