ALBERT BAZEIAN THINKS OF RESIGNATION
Chairman of the political council of Republic opposition party Albert Bazeian, former Mayor of Yerevan informed of his wish to resign office, motivating it by the fact that he as one of the opposition leaders is to blame for the failures of the opposition last year. "We made certain promises to the people but did not keep most of them", Bazeian said in his interview with Aravot newspaper. However the political council and its leader Aram Sargsian (the brother of Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsian, assassinated in 1999) is refraining from accepting the resignation yet. The observers are binding Bazeian's decision with the probable change of policy of the party and its new unification with the so-called right-liberal forces. In their opinion, unlike Aram Sargsian, Bazeian is rather skeptical about the possibility of uniting with former President Levon Ter-Petrosian. Besides, there is hearsay, that another outstanding member of the party Vagharshak Harutyunian, former Defense Minister, known for his pro-Russian stand, has been remaining aloof from the party activities lately.
