IFC nabs “Inescapable” Syria-set thriller

PanARMENIAN.Net - IFC Films has acquired U.S. distribution rights to writer/director Ruba Nadda’s Inescapable from Myriad Pictures. The thriller, which stars Alexander Siddiq, Joshua Jackson and Marisa Tomei, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The film is the story of a Syrian expatriate, played by Siddiq, whose journalist daughter goes missing in Damascus. He returns to his homeland to search for her with the help of a former lover (Tomei) and an embassy official (Jackson.)

It was produced by Daniel Ironand Lance Samuels. Killer Films’ Christine Vachon, Myriad’s Kirk D’Amico and Alliance Films’ Mark Slone served as executive producer. Alliance Films is distributing in Canada.

IFC released Nadda’s last film, Cairo Time, which also starred Siddig, domestically in 2010. "We're all very happy to be working with the wonderfully talented Ruba Nadda again on her follow-up to Cairo Time which was a great success for us,” Jonathan Sehring, president, Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said.

The deal was negotiated by D’Amico and The Gersh Agency, who were co-selling the film for the U.S., and Arianna Bocco, senior vp, acquisitions & co production, Sundance Selects/IFC Films. Myriad Pictures is handling the film internationally, and Alliance Films is distributing in Canada.
