Armenian PM: talks on Russian gas price unlinked to presidential race

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian-Russian negotiations on gas price and the timing of possible increase in tariffs are unlinked to RA presidential elections in February, Prime Minister said.

As Tigran Sargsyan noted, negotiations between Armenia’s Energy Ministry and Russia on gas prices had not finalized yet.

“The Russian side is guided by own rules, with gas prices specified on basis of a specific mechanism, envisaging price upsurge or decrease due to market conditions,” Prime Minister Sargsyan said, adding that gas price will be on Armenian parliament’s agenda.

President of Public Services Regulatory Commission Robert Nazaryan said September 29 that the gas prices in Armenia will be reconsidered.

It’s noteworthy that after August 8 talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said the two countries reached agreement on Russian gas supply.

“The price of gas supplied to Armenia should be based on market prices, in line with regional tariff prices when maintaining economic efficiency,” President Sargsyan said.
