Heritage: Tsarukyan’s running for president best for Prosperous Armenia

Prosperous Armenia party leader Gagik Tsarukyan’s running for president would be the best option for his party, given the current situation in the country, Heritage opposition party’s secretary general said.

As Stepan Safaryan told a press conference, it will help Prosperous Armenia avoid endorsing the current president Serzh Sargsyan and abandon pro-Kocharian policy.

“Tsarukyan may win part of the opposition votes even in case of a true conflict between the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and Prosperous Armenia, as it happened during the parliamentary race,” Heritage member said.

He further ruled out that Vartan Oskanian may become Prosperous Armenia’s presidential candidate in 2013.

“Don’t think that Armenian National Congress (ANC) leader Levon Ter-Petrossian will forgive Oskanian for March 1, 2008 events,” Mr. Safaryan said, ruling out possible support to Oskanian by ANC opposition bloc and Heritage.
