ARMENIAN PARTY READY TO COMPROMISE NOT UNDER PRESSURE, BUT VOLUNTARILY, KOCHARIAN SAID
The Armenian party has never denied that the Nagorno Karabakh conflict can be settled only on the basis of mutual compromises, as only capitulation of one of the can be an alternative to the compromise solution, and the parties are not going to surrender, Armenian President Robert Kocharian stated in the course of a meeting with students and professors of Yerevan State University, Regnum news agency reported. In his words, the compromises of the Armenian party directly relate to the internal political and economic stability in Armenia, as well as depend on the stand of the international community. "The one who holds direct talks feels much more confident when backed by a strong and stable country," the Armenian President stated. At that he flatly denied the apprehension that trying to solve the conflict the international community, any organizations or mediator countries force the parties to any concessions. "No one makes anyone do anything. On the contrary, the mediators unambiguously state that they are ready to invest all of their political and economic resources to assist the parties solve the problem. The Armenian party is ready to compromise not under the pressure of a force, but absolutely voluntarily," the President stated. In his words, the option of imposing peace, applied at the Balkans, is not acceptable in the case of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, as the mechanism was applied there to prevent the exacerbation humanitarian crisis during active hostilities. «Peace and development have been prevailing in Karabakh for an entire decade, so the situation here is different,» the President emphasized.
