Lara: Martirosyan will know what it’s like to fight against A+ fighter

Junior middleweight contender Erislandy Lara has voiced a hope for the WBC president Jose Sulaiman to keep his promise, forcing Saul "Canelo" Alvarez into a fight against him.

Sulaiman said earlier that Alvarez will have to face his mandatory challenger in 2013. Lara said that all of his focus is on Martirosyan but he admit that he hopes Sulaiman keeps his word, BoxingScene reported.

"I am going to leave that in the hands of the WBC and Mr Sulaiman. I can't worry about that until after the fight. After the fight we will talk about that.

"Mr Sulaiman came on record and said that (Alvarez must face his mandatory). He never came on record before so hopefully he is a man of his word and makes the fight happen. If it doesn't then no worries because the division is stacked.

There are a lot of great fighters we can fight and we would fight any of them. We want to earn the title. Nothing has been given to us and we work hard for everything we get."

Meanwhile, Martirosyan confidently said that when he gets in the ring with Lara that he will knock him out with a body shot that will also break the Cuban's ribs. When reminded of Martirosyan's comments, Lara laughed and said that Martirosyan doesn't know what he is getting himself into.

"It is going to be a very good fight. That I can guarantee you. Especially with the inspiration Vanes has to break my ribs. I hope he goes in the ring with the balls to try to break my ribs. He will see what it's a like to be in the ring with an A+ fighter, " Lara concluded.
