Xbox 360 worldwide sales top 70 million units

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Xbox 360 has sold more than 70 million units worldwide since its release in 2005, Digital Spy reported.

Microsoft announced the milestone during its quarterly earnings report, stating that it shifted a further 1.7m during the period in question.

The platform holder generated revenue of $1.95 billion (£1.2bn) during the quarter, despite selling some 600,000 fewer consoles that it did during the same period last year.

Comparatively, Sony revealed that the PlayStation 3 had sold 63m units as of March this year, while the Nintendo Wii hit 96m units in June.

There was a significant increase in Xbox Live subscriptions during the three-month period, with the network service seeing gains of 15%. More than 40m subscribers now make use of the platform.

Microsoft has been tipped to unveil a successor to the Xbox 360 in 2013, with job listings and leaked documents supporting such rumours.
