Author Neil Gaiman won a Hugo Award for his last Doctor Who episode, 2011’s The Doctor’s Wife. Series exec producer Steven Moffat has now confirmed that Gaiman will script an episode of the current season that features the return of the Cybermen, notorious cyborg enemies of the Time Lord since 1966. (They were last seen in 2011′s Closing Time,) Deadline reported.

The episode will air next spring and also will co-star Life’s Too Short’s Warwick Davis, EastEnders’ Tamzin Outhwaite and Being Human’s Jason Watkins.

Stephen Woolfenden, a second unit director on some of the Harry Potter films, is helming the episode.

The series, which airs on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the U.S., returns for a Christmas special on December 25 that will introduce Jenna-Louise Coleman as the new companion to Matt Smith’s Doctor. Then, in the spring, the show will be back for an eight episode run.

When Doctor Who kicked off day-and-date in the UK and the U.S. in September, it gave BBC America its highest-rated, most-watched telecast ever in Live + Same Day.
