November 10 celebrates World Science Day

World Science Day for Peace and Development is observed on November 10 annually. It is an opportunity for the world and its leaders to keep up efforts to make full use of science to achieve peace and development.

The 2012 theme “Towards Green Societies: Equity, Inclusiveness, and Participation” seeks to strengthen public awareness of the importance of sustaining green practices for peace, maintaining the ecological balance of world communities, and highlighting the responsible use of science for the benefit of society.

The 21st century has seen many problems that are threatening humanity and the environment, and undue population growth. The world community must improve for sustainable peace and development that is compatible and in harmony with the social and natural environment.

Technologies developed for health, food production, engineering, and communication have made great improvements in human welfare. Discoveries and inventions, such as penicillin, computers, and mobile phones, and the other scientific innovations have brought about development and created peace, Tempo.com reported.
