Yahoo trying out radical touch-optimized overhaul

PanARMENIAN.Net - Yahoo is trialling a radical overhaul of its homepage as it attempts to reverse its fortunes and gain ground on its rivals, Digital Spy reported citing AllThingsD.

The web giant's new-look is optimised for touch-screen devices with larger titles akin to Microsoft's Windows 8 interface.

Codenamed 'Project Homerun', the redesign is being tested with tablet devices and smartphones with larger displays in mind. It features larger photos stacked at the top of the page and Yahoo's affiliated services laid out like apps.

Yahoo is undergoing a transformation after shaking up its management setup in a bid to shake off its recent financial woes and claw back ground on the likes of Google.

Recently appointed CEO Marissa Mayer has already brought in wholesale changes to the firm, poached Google executive Henrique De Castro to take up the vacant post of chief operating officer and dissolving its South Korean business.

Yahoo is expected to implement the new design within the next two months.
