"The Attack" drama wins top honors at Marrakech Film Fest

The Attack, a drama centered on the aftermath of a suicide bombing and its impact on an Arab surgeon living in Israel, won top honors - the Golden Star for best film - at the 12th annual Marrakech International Film Festival, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The competition jury, headed by President John Boorman and including such industry VIPs as Gemma Arterton and James Gray, picked the politically-charged drama from director Ziad Doueiri, which was based on the novel by Yasmina Khadra.

A Hijacking, Tobias Lindholm's dramatic thriller about the capturing of a Danish merchant ship by Somali pirates, was also a big winner. The feature shared the Marrakech Jury Prize ex aequo with Vahid Vakilifar's Iranian drama Taboor and won the Best Actor honor for Hijacking star Soren Malling. Best Actress went to Elina Reinold for her role in Mushrooming from Estonian director Toomas Hussar.

The 12th annual Marrakech International Film Festival wrapped up Saturday (Dec. 8).
