KAZIMIROV UNDERWENT HARSH ACCUSATIONS IN BAKU
Yesterday Civilization NGO in collaboration with LINKS British Organization held a seminar titled Geo-Strategic Importance of Azerbaijan at the International Press Center, reported the 525 Baku newspaper. Former Russian Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Vladimir Kazimirov was among those participating in the seminar. During the event a group of protesters headed by Karabakh Liberation Organization (KLO) Chairman Firudin Mamedov entered the hall, with scanning addressed to the Russian diplomat: «Go and make a statement on recognition of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan or get out of this land!» After intervention of organizers and political scientist Vafa Guluzade the KLO members calmed down a little, however «an attempt by Kazimirov to teach a good lesson to Azerbaijan» again exasperated them. This time the KLO activists' demand was more categorical: «Kazimirov get out of Azerbaijan!» Mr. Kazimirov devoted his speech to the Karabakh settlement. It followed from his words that neither Armenians, nor Azeris were right, both people are engaged in not in necessary affairs, but self-deception. He recommended to strengthen the cease-fire regime and engage in reconciliation. Those present displayed a pointed response and accused him in «supporting Armenians and not wishing to recognize the fact of Armenian's occupying Azeri lands.» The response of Chief of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Executive Staff of the President Novruz Mamedov to Kazimirov was the most harsh one: «All those who were Co-Chairs in their time along with you have forgotten the issue and are engaged in their own affairs. However, you again leave this issue - either due to much love for Armenia or any other reason. Each time I felt you are very close to Armenians morally, politically and by your interests.» Political scientist Guluzade reminded the Russian diplomat about official Moscow desire to allocate its military bases in Azerbaijan and said that peace will be in Azerbaijan in an American way: «Because Russia lost its chance to bring peace to the region. Russia is not a state, but an empire and this empire can act in some other way. The Russian Empire merely wished to hold Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia under control via life-long conflicts.» Then Kazimirov somehow tried to mitigate his statements noting the importance of continuation of the talks over settlement of the conflict. MP Hasim Mollazade also accused the guest in living by past sentiments. Representative of the Center for Social Sciences of Georgia Georgy Gelashvili said that Georgia is a country, which implements regional projects along with Azerbaijan and moves to Europe. In his words, both countries need stability to implement their plans and reduce Russia's influence: «This factor will increase simultaneous to increase of the volume of transportation of energy resources of the Caspian to the West. Thereupon, an alliance of Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan is very important.»
