Flickr rolls out new app for iPhone

PanARMENIAN.Net - Yahoo!-owned photo service Flickr has today rolled out a new native app for iPhone devices, offering speedier browsing and a clearer interface, Digital Spy reported citing CNET.

Individual photographs are now clearer when running the application on an Apple handset, and a host of additional filters, search options and social features have been added.

"Engagement to a high percentage is happening on mobile," said Flickr head Markus Spiering. "It really brings Flickr into the palm of your hand."

Spiering went on to say that the overhauled app debuted on iPhone because it is the most popular platform to access the service from, but confirmed that iPad and Android versions are in the works.

"We are planning shortly after the iPhone launch to bring the experience also on Android - a consistent experience that feels natural and native to the platform," he added. "Going forward there should not be a difference between where you use Flickr."

Flickr was an early trendsetter in the world of online photography, allowing users to upload images and have other comments on them.

Although the platform has since fallen behind competitors such as Facebook-owned Instagram, Flickr still boasts more than 85 million active users.
