Michael Gambon, Alfred Molina to star in “Love Is Strange” relationship drama

PanARMENIAN.Net - Ira Sachs will direct Michael Gambon and Alfred Molina as a married couple in the NY-based relationship drama Love Is Strange. The follow-up to Sachs’ semi-autobiographical drama Keep the Lights On similarly explores the romantic ups and downs of a gay relationship, with Gambon and Molina playing longtime partners forced to live separately after their Manhattan nuptials. Parts & Labor, the company behind Lights, is producing, with shooting set to begin this summer in New York, Deadline reported.

Sachs, nominated for a Best Director Indie Spirit Award for Best Director for Keep The Lights On, reteamed with Lights co-writer Mauricio Zacharias on the script. Sachs will produce alongside Lucas Joaquin and Parts & Labor’s Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy. Crescendo Films’ Adam Leibovitz and Kinoelektron’s Janja Kralj are co-producers.

Gambon, repped by Paradigm and Independent Talent Group, stars in The Weinstein Company’s Quartet directed by Dustin Hoffman and most recently reprised his role as Dumbledore in the franchise-ending Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2. Molina, repped by WME and Hyler Management, hits Park City this week with Francesca Gregorini’s Emanuel And The Truth About Fishes and stars in David E. Kelly’s TNT series Monday Mornings that premieres next month.

Parts & Labor has three films in competition at Sundance: David Lowery’s Ain’t Them Bodies Saints starring Casey Affleck, Ronoey Mara, and Ben Foster; Shaul Schwarz’s drug-trafficking documentary Narco Cultura; and Andrew Dosunmu’s Mother Of George.
