MAYOR OF MOSCOW TO VISIT YEREVAN EARLY OCTOBER
October 7-8 Mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov will arrive in Armenia to take part in the Erebuni-Yerevan festivities organized annually October 8-9. Besides, he is likely to participate in the unveiling ceremony of the monument to Peter I in Yerevan. The Erebuni-Yerevan holiday was first marked in 1968 when Yerevan was celebrating its 2750-th birthday. At that time 2 750 fountains were opened in the Lenin Square (presently Republic Square). The number of the fountains is increasing with one each year. Up to 1988 this holiday was celebrated every year, however since the declaration of Independence the tradition was restored in 1998 only, IA Regnum reports.
