Twitter launching music discovery app - reportMarch 14, 2013 - 18:51 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Twitter is allegedly launching a standalone music app using technology from a recent acquisition. The microblogging giant is said to have bought out music discovery firm We Are Hunted last year and is developing its own service based on its technology, Digital Spy reported citing CNET. The so-called Twitter Music app, which makes personalised song recommendations based on who the user follows, has been tipped for release on iOS devices by the end of the month. Powered by SoundCloud, Twitter Music has been touted as a competitor to the likes of Pandora and Spotify, as well as Apple and Google's rumoured music streaming platforms. We Are Hunted was launched by a team of Australian developers in 2009, as a means of enabling users to stream music and compile playlists on social media and discover new music via its native apps. The We Are Hunted web-based service appears to have been taken down recently. The launch of a standalone music service would see Twitter take another step towards becoming a fully-fledged media operation, following the launch of its Vine video app earlier this year. Twitter is yet to officially announce Twitter Music. Top stories Yerevan will host the 2024 edition of the World Congress On Information Technology (WCIT).
