Armenia to Join North-South Corridor
The third sitting of the coordination council of the North-South International Transport Corridor with participation of 14 states was held in New Delhi October 20-21, RA MFA press center reported. Armenia was represented by First Deputy to the Minister of Transport and Communication Hrant Beglarian and RA Ambassador to India Ashot Kocharian. Heads of the delegations of the treaty-founder states (Russia, Iran, India) as well as those of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Turkey addressed the sitting. During his speech Hrant Beglarian noted the importance of the project and stressed that Armenia stated of its readiness to join the treaty in 2001. The Armenian government has received consent to join the treaty. Upon completion of interstate legislative processes the RA government will convey the relative legal documents via official channels to the Treaty Bailee State of Iran. The next sitting of the coordinating council is scheduled for the latter half of 2006 in Kazakhstan.
