Baghdassaryan: Integration into European Structures One of Armenia's Political Priorities

PanARMENIAN.Net - Today Armenian Parliament Speaker Artur Baghdassaryan met with Belgian Senate President Anne-Marie Lizin to discuss the development of the Armenian-Belgian parliamentary relations, regional policy and the process of integration into the European structures, RA NA press center reported. On the guest's request Artur Baghdassaryan informed her of the important events in the political life of the republic and noted that the date of the referendum on constitutional amendments has been already fixed. In his words, the integration into the European structures is one the priority issues for Armenia and Belgian experience could prove very useful on this way. The parties noted the importance of strengthening interparliamentary ties, which will be a contribution to the process. The interlocutors also considered the possibility of holding a regional conference in 2006. Ms. Anne-Marie Lizin offered assistance in arranging the meeting of the Armenian and Turkish Speakers with the agenda including discussion of bilateral relations. The Armenian Speaker said Armenia welcomes normalization of relations with Turkey and thinks the problems should be discussed openly and publicly. He also noted the importance of participation of the three South Caucasian republics in the regional programs and EU's assistance in excluding double standards.
