A conference of French-speaking countries was held in Mali capital of Bamako November 6-8. Representatives of 63 countries took part in the event chaired by Secretary General of Francophonie (French-Speaking) International Organization Abdou Diouf. The conference referred to democracy, human rights and freedoms, reported the Press Service of the Armenian MFA. Mali President Amadou Toumani Toure opened the conference. Armenian Ambassador to France Edvard Nalbandyan also took part in it and delivered a speech. Democracy and human rights principles were provided for in the declaration of independence of Armenia and the first Constitution, he said in his statement. During past 14 years Armenia passed a long way, strengthening and developing these processes. Armenia prepared to a referendum on constitution with confidence that democratization should be strengthened in the country. In case of a positive outcome of the referendum and making reforms comply with country laws, Armenia will meet highest European and world standards of democracy, human rights and freedoms, which will stimulate country development.
