Baku Criticized Stepashin Statement Made in Yerevan
«Sergey Stepashin is not commissioned to make any statements on adjacent states and his statements in Yerevan are «provocation.» Azeri President's former State Advisor on Foreign Policy, political scientist Vafa Guluzade commented this way on the statement of Russian Accounts Chamber Chairman Sergey Stepashin in Yerevan that it is necessary to provide «complete and exhaustive information to Russia on the possibility of deployment of US radar stations on the territory of Azerbaijan.» «Statements like that are aimed at the worsening of Azeri-American relations. Azerbaijan is an independent state and not a colony of Russia and it has a full right to develop cooperation with the US,» the Azeri President's former State Advisor said. In his turn director of the Center for Political Innovation and Technologies, political scientist Mubariz Ahmedoglu stated that Azerbaijan should not inform any state on deployment of military objects on its territory. «When concluding an agreement on the rent of Gabala radar station, official Baku did not make his actions comply with Washington. The same refers to Russia in the issue of deployment of US radar stations,» Ahmedoglu said, adding the aforementioned stations aim at strengthening security.

Political scientist Zardusht Alizade called statement of Russian Accounts Chamber Chairman «short-sighted step aimed at temporary pacification of official Yerevan.» In his words, Russia does not need information on deployment of any objects on the territory of Azerbaijan. «Moscow has sufficient information about it. Especially since the most powerful Gabala radar station functions in the north of Azerbaijan and weak US stations will not be able to equal it,» the political scientist said.
