EU-South Caucasus Meeting to be Held in Brussels December 13
The EU-South Caucasus scheduled for December 13 promises to have interesting and precise results. The three South Caucasian states have declared the European integration the priority line of the foreign policy. The Armenian government hopes that the EU will become a structure the cooperation with which will promote the resolution of external political and economic tasks. The complicated Armenia-Turkey relations have already been included in the EU agenda. In October 2005 Armenian President Robert Kocharian met with EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana, who promised that the "EU will everything within the limits of the possible for the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border." Last year the EU became Armenia's major trade partner and the commodity turnover between the RA and EU grew with 37%.

The EU contribution to the Armenian economic and political fields is also obvious. After declaration of RA independence, the EU assistance to Armenia totaled 400 million euros. Besides, the EU member-states' individual assignments to the Armenian government made some 170 million euros. Since 2001 the EU has attended to the conflict available in the South Caucasus. "We think that the European Union can play an active role in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement especially in the post-negotiation period, "Kocharian said earlier. It should be also noted that Javier Solana will hold tete-a-tete meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.
