Lingering conflicts Issue Not to Be Included in UN 60th Session Agenda
The UN General Committee charged with the organization of work of the UN General Assembly rejected the proposal of the GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova) on inclusion in the 60th UN Session agenda an item on the "frozen" conflicts in the Black Sea and South Caucasian regions and their consequences for the world peace, security and development. 3 (Azerbaijan, UK and U.S.) out of 28 members of the UN General Committee voted for the GUAM proposal. Five Committee members (Russia, Armenia, Angola, Myanma and Venezuela) voted against. The others abstained. To note, the General Committee is composed of the President and 21 Vice-Presidents of the Assembly and the Chairmen of the six Main Committees.

The GUAM member-states consider that the international mediation in the settlement of lingering conflicts in the Black Sea and South Caucasian regions did not bear fruit. That is why they proposed to include the issue in the agenda of the 60th Session of the UN General Assembly. GUAM says the conflicts in Moldova, Abkhazia, Tskhinvali, South Ossetia and Nagorno Karabakh jeopardize world peace and stability as well as threaten the territorial integrity of three UN member-states, Trend agency reported.
