Warner Bros. to adapt "Dungeons & Dragons" iconic game into film

Warner Bros. to adapt

PanARMENIAN.Net - Warner Bros. Pictures is confirmed to make a "Dungeons & Dragons" reboot after successfully acquiring the rights to adapt the controversial yet best-selling role-playing game created by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. As AceShowbiz reveals citing Deadline, "Wrath of the Titans" scribe David Leslie Johnson has been hired to provide the script.

The film will use Johnson's already-existing screenplay "Chainmail", which was bought as a free-standing project last year and will be polished to fit the film. Johnson, who also penned 2011's "Red Riding Hood" which starred Amanda Seyfried, is said to have written it based on an obscure game by Gygax before he and Arneson designed "D&D".

"The Lego Movie" producer Roy Lee and Courtney Solomon are attached to serve as producers for the film. Solomon himself is quite familiar with the project since he once directed an adaptation of the game in 2000. Since it's in the early development stage, no start date has been set yet.

Solomon's pic was not a great success in the box office. Starring Justin Whalin, Marlon Wayans and Bruce Payne, the live-action flick opened to $7.2 million in December 2000. The critical reaction was mainly negative, particularly because of Wayans' character which was seen as "a racist throwback to black stereotypes."

Even so, the Savina depicter in the poorly-received film Thora Birch received a nomination for a Young Artist Award for Best Young Supporting Actress in a Feature Film.
