Armenia to join Reitox European network on drug addiction

Secretary of Armenian National Security Council (NSC), head of the inter-ministerial commission on fight against drug abuse and drug trafficking Arthur Baghdasaryan met with the director of European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) Wolfgang Götz. Fight against drug abuse and drug trafficking was in the focus of the meeting, with an agreement reached on Armenia’s inclusion in Reitox European information network on drugs and drug addiction and opening of a rehabilitation center in the country. The deal also envisages technical support to Armenian state institutions involved in struggle against drug abuse and drug trafficking, as well as trainings for the representatives of relevant institutions.

Arthur Baghdasaryan delivered a speech during REITOX week international conference on drug abuse, briefing those present on 2009-2012 national program.

He hailed the results of the program, with 1139 drug trade crimes reported in 2012 against 1525 reported in 2011.

The European officials and experts highly assessed the measures taken in the framework of Armenia’s national program.

Arthur Baghdasaryan held meetings with the representatives of foreign countries and EU high-level officials involved in fight against drug abuse and illegal drug trade.

Baghdasaryan’s official meetings with politicians of Portugal are also on Baghdasaryan’s agenda.
