OSCE PA session in Istanbul to focus on protracted conflicts

The 22nd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will be held in Istanbul, Turkey from June 29 to July 3, 2013, OSCE official website said.

The Turkish Grand National Assembly will host the annual gathering under the theme of Helsinki +40 to provide parliamentary input to the work of the OSCE.

At the session, Lithuanian rapporteur Vilija Aleknaite Abramikiene will present a draft resolution for the general committee on political affairs and security to include the issue of protracted conflicts.

The draft resolution calls for intensified efforts towards generating a peaceful and viable solution to the unresolved conflicts, and urges the OSCE Chairmanship to redouble efforts to find solutions to the tragic protracted conflicts in the Caucasus and Moldova.

The document urges the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to continue their engagement with Armenia and Azerbaijan to seek solutions to the conflict over Nagorno Karabakh.

The document also repeats its recommendation to re-establish a meaningful OSCE presence in Georgia, and to maintain and strengthen the OSCE Offices in Baku and Yerevan, as well as the OSCE Mission in Moldova.
