Torosyan: Russell-Johnston Report States Peoples Right to Self-Determination
PACE Armenian delegation leader, Parliament Vice-Speaker Tigran Torosyan reported that in the course of the PACE Committee session on the Nagorno Karabakh issue in Paris January 9 it was noted that the NK issue should be solved within the OSCE Minsk Group. T. Torosyan stated it during a news conference today. As of resolution 1416 presented by Lord Russell-Johnston, Mr. Torosyan remarked it does not refer to solution of the issue, but presents possible models that can be used during conflict settlement. In his words, the resolution also states peoples right to self-determination, while during the Paris meeting Azeris did not make proposals over unquestioning implementation of peoples right to self-determination. Tigran Torosyan supposes such discussions of the resolution are, most likely, of agitation nature to Azeris, while the content of the document does not interest them. As of the opportunity of introduction of the report into the PACE January 23-27 session, in Torosyan's words, there is no information on that yet. Thus, Azeri party statements that they are going to raise the NK issue are groundless. "After the opening of the session the Bureau can introduce the issue in the agenda, as it will receive the document and will form its position over the further work of the commission," T. Torosyan said, reported the Yerkir.
