A strong hail that hit Armenia in May affected about 12 thousand families, a chair of a newly-formed farmers outreach foundation MP Alexander Petrosyan said.

As the MP told a May 27 news conference, over 60 thousand villagers are currently in need of sustenance, with the losses from damaged harvest totaling AMD 25 billion.

The MP urged governmental, non-governmental and charity organizations, representatives of Diaspora as well as civilians to aid the families of farmers.

As the MP further noted, the foundation will be collecting means till August 1, with a special committee for distribution of sums raised to be formed later.
