Netflix hopes to "double" original content in 2014

Netflix is hoping to "double" its original content in 2014, Digital Spy said.

The company's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos revealed the plans for "Phase 2" of the streaming service in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

"It's feasible that we would double the load that we did this year [with eight new shows]," he said.

"People's tastes are wildly diverse, and I want to be able to appeal to all of those tastes and across demos."

Sarandos also has high ambitions for the service as he aims to pull in big names to boost its original programming, including Sofia Coppola, Warren Beatty and Jodie Foster.

The popular streaming service is due to launch a new season of Arrested Development, following the success of its original political drama House of Cards.
