National Security Council chief urges for economy growth to curb emigration

National Security Council Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan expressed concern over Armenia’s demographic safety, noting that every possible step is being taken to resolve the issue.

The Armenian official urged for economic progress to curb the increasing emigration. At the same time he dismissed suggestions that a Russia-initiated Compatriots program might account for growing emigration.

Commenting on Baku’s remarks that in several years Azeri population will exceed that of Armenia 10 times, the official slammed the statement as Azeri propaganda. He further called for strengthening Armenia’s military and defense systems, noting safety to be a priority issue on the country’s agenda.
