Snowfall in Armenia: Is Situation Under Control?
"To date traffic in many regional motorways is hampered over the heavy snowfall and wind. The Selim pass is closed, traffic in the Yerevan-Gyumri highway is obstructed, many roads do not function," press office of the Armenian Ministry of Transport and Communications told PanARMENIAN.Net. Road machinery constantly works however strong wind drifts the cleaned sectors of the roads in Gegharkunik region, Sisian and Goris. "On the whole, the situation is under control. The road services are ready and supplied with the essential equipment. Everything depends on surprise the weather can present us," the press office said.

As for the streets in Yerevan, the Ministry said it is the City Administration to deal with the issue. However PanARMENIAN.Net reporter did not manage to get any comment from the municipal functionaries.

Meanwhile despite all the "efforts" of the authorities, the situation in the Yerevan roads is rather deplorable. The cars move with great cautiousness. Snowploughs can rarely be seen in the central streets of the capital only. To remind, as PanARMENIAN.Net came to know from the Armenian meteorological center, the heavy snowfall may continue till the end of the week.
