Cellist Andrei Ionita wins Aram Khachaturian Int’l Competition

PanARMENIAN.Net - Yerevan hosted the closing ceremony of the 9th Aram Khachaturian International Competition on July 14.

Cellist Andrei Ionita was announced the winner of the contest. The second prize was awarded to Anna Morozova (Russia), with the third prize given to Aleksandra Perlova (Russia) and Gayane Khachatryan (Armenia).

The honorary guest of the event, artistic director and principal conductor of Moscow State Symphony Orchestra Pavel Kogan noted in his speech that the competition aims to help the young musicians find their professional path. He said that the winner, Andrei Ionita, will be given a chance to perform with Moscow State Symphony Orchestra.

The MIDEM classical and jazz worldwide director Cornelia Much awarded a special prize to Andrei Ionita, inviting him to take part in the festival in 2014, pianist Armen Babakhanian and cellist Gayane Khachatryan were also among those invited.

9th Aram Khachaturian International Competition kicked off on the 110th birth anniversary of the composer, June 6, and consisted of 3 rounds. The project was implemented through the joint efforts of RA Ministry of Culture, “Aram Khachaturian-competition” Cultural Foundation and Yerevan State Conservatory. It is held under the high patronage of the First Lady of RA Mrs. Rita Sargsyan, who is honorary president of the board of trustees of the competition. Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation has been the main partner of the competition since 2010.

It is noteworthy, that Aram Khachaturian International Competition joined the World Federation of International Music Competitions in May.
