Twitter updates Vine Android app, adds search & hashtag support

Twitter has updated its Vine Android app to include several new features previously missing, according to Digital Spy.

Version 1.1 now allows users to search, include mentions and add hashtags, much like its iOS counterpart.

The six-second looped videos can also be shared on Facebook, although front-facing camera usage is still not supported.

Additionally, improvements to capture speed and quality were announced, on top of a new clear cache option in the settings.

An Android version of the app launched earlier in June, helping the service to reach 13 million registered users.

The move comes days after Facebook announced a new 15-second Instagram video app, as competition in short-length video sharing ramps up.
