Karabakh and Kosovo Conflicts Cannot be Settled Equally
The conflicts available in different parts of the world were caused by the fact that the borders between the states were determined before and during the World War II. After the collapse of the USSR these borders became a greater stumbling block, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Heikki Talvitie said at a press conference in Yerevan. "The same can be said about Yugoslavia. Here the similarity ends. The Nagorno Karabakh conflict should not be settled like the Kosovo one. It will be an imitation of settlement. Besides, the talks on Kosovo just start while you have already passed a long way," Talvitie noted.

In his words, when Finland was the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chair in 1995-1996 Nagorno Karabakh took part in the negotiations. Since 1997 the talks have been held between Armenia and Azerbaijan. "I think, when the fate of people is being decided their opinion should be taken into account. When the time comes Armenia will hold negotiations together with Nagorno Karabakh," the diplomat said.

As for the latest meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Rambouillet, Mr. Talvitie considers no one expected much of it. "It's important that the OSCE MG Co-chairs agreed to meet and continue the talks. I am convinced that the process should go on and compromise is unavoidable," he said.
