Zhirinovsky: Kosovo Possible Independence May Be Precedent for Karabakh
First direct talks between delegations of Serbia and Kosovo Albanians completed in Vienna Tuesday. The meeting did not make parties' stands over the issue closer. The talks are expected to last at least till December. Matters of participation of the Albanian majority and Serbian minority in various issues were discussed at the meeting. The next round of talks will be held March 17. When commenting on the first round Russian State Duma Vice-Speaker Vladimir Zhirinovsky supposed that «independence of that new state may be confirmed soon.» In his words, «if Kosovo attains independence, an international precedent will be formed and all the remaining unrecognized territories - Nagorno Karabakh, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transnistria - can receive similar international recognition.»

Well-known German political scientist, expert of the German Council for Partnership and Policy Alexander Rar believes «the solution of the Kosovo issue will form a precedent for settlement of other conflicts, including those in the post-soviet space.» «Frozen conflicts have already existed for 20 years. The situation may last for another 15 years. It is necessary to find options to for these «black holes» to disappear,» the German political scientist stated, emphasizing the OSCE decisive role in it. In his opinion, Kosovo will work for joining Albania, however the West will not admit it. Abkhazia, Transnistria, in contrast, will work for independence. «Forming quasi-sovereign states is possible in that case and the OSCE will determine their status, having submitted it to international community's approval, which recognizes certain level of independence,» the German political scientist said, reported Infotag agency.
