Bird Flu Got to Georgia
According to preliminary reports, bird flu virus is detected in Georgia. As Georgian PM Zurab Nogaideli reported at a Government meeting, According to preliminary information, the fatal disease is detected in migrant birds in Adlia region in the Ajarian Republic. In his words, in the outskirts of Adlia mass death of birds, including swans, is registered. Laboratory examination, held in Georgia, detected H5N1 subtype of bird flu. Materials are sent to London and Venice laboratories. Final results are expected in a few days. Today Z. Nogaideli will arrive in Ajaria to study the situation on the scene.

After the bird flu was registered in Turkey, Georgia banned hunting wild birds and organized measures at border with Turkey and Azerbaijan to prevent spread of the infection. Nogaideli called to intensify control of implementation of the ban for hunting. He also urged the population to refrain from contacts with wild birds and isolate poultry. Georgian authorities do their best to eliminate the hotbed of the disease, the PM said, reported RBC.
