EU Urges Yerevan and Baku to Prepare Peoples to Balanced Agreement on Karabakh
The European Union regretted that at their Rambouillet meeting Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan «could not pass decisions necessary for a big break in the Nagorno Karabakh issue,» says an EU statement, made at a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council after the speech of Armenian FM Vartan Oskanian. The document specifically notes, «At the same time we hail the intention of the two presidents to continue the talks. We urge both parties to redouble their efforts for coming to an agreement, which will demand compromises from both parties. We again urge both parties to prepare peoples to a balanced agreement on Karabakh and avoid any public statements that can lead to conflict escalation and increase distrust.» «Thereupon the EU reminds of a statement, passed at the OSCE Ministers' meeting in Ljubljana that suggested that parties transfer from talks to making decisions. We strongly believe that the parties should not miss the window of opportunities available,» the EU statement says.
