Samsung sells over 15 million smartphones in China in Q2August 13, 2013 - 14:52 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Samsung Electronics Co sold more than 15 million smartphones in China in the second quarter of this year, retaining its position as the top smartphone seller in the world's most populous country for six straight quarters, data showed Tuesday, Aug 13, according to Yonhap news agency. Samsung sold some 15.3 million smartphones in China, home to the world's largest smartphone market by volume, in the April-June period, accounting for a 19.4 percent market share, up 0.9 percentage point from the previous quarter, according to the data compiled by Strategy Analytics, a U.S. market research group. Trailing behind Samsung in the Strategy Analytics data were Chinese handset makers including Lenovo, Coolpad and ZTE — with their market shares ranging from 9.7 percent to 12.3 percent. Notably, Huawei — which took second place last quarter with 8.1 million units sold – saw its market share drop 2.4 percentage points to 9.6 percent, The Next Web says. The Strategy Analytics data also showed that Apple sold 3.4 million units to garner a 4.3 percent share during the second quarter. All in all, 78.8 million smartphones were bought by Chinese consumers during Q2 2013, according to the latest Strategy Analytics estimate. That accounts for 35 percent of all global shipments during the period. Samsung’s industry dominance is developing into a norm in China — which has undoubtedly also driven the adoption of the Android operating system. The Google-owned platform was responsible for 43 percent of smartphone profits in 2012, according to Strategy Analytics, which determined that Samsung accounted for a dominant 95 percent share of all Android revenue itself.
