Iranian Embassy Censured Anti-Iranian Statements at II World Azeris Congress

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Iranian Embassy in Baku has sent a note to Azeri MFA in protest against «anti-Iranian statements at the II World Azerbaijanis Congress on March 16.» The note expresses deep regret over anti-Iranian elements' participation in the Congress and provocative speeches over Iran's domestic issues. «The Embassy censures those steps, which run counter to friendly relations between the two fraternal countries, and considers these conflicting with Azerbaijan's commitments within the Treaty on Friendly Relations and Cooperation Principles, signed in Teheran May 2002,» the document underscores.



The Iranian Embassy is also surprised with reference to Turkmanchay Treaty of 1828, made during the Congress, and calling Azerbaijan as a divided country. «Under the conditions, when Azerbaijan encountered the problem of territorial integrity, «statements of the kind» run counter to national interests and harm strengthening bilateral relations. The IRI Embassy resolutely urges Azerbaijan to cut short activities of anti-Iranian elements,» the note says, reports Day.az.
