Armenia posts 3,6% growth in meat price

PanARMENIAN.Net - As of 2013, Armenia posted a significant increase in livestock against the 2012 results.

According to the National Statistical Service, 303 000 cows and 134 000 pigs are currently listed in Armenia. The number of sheep soared by 114,3%, with the majority of those exported to Iran.

The poultry farming is also developing, slaughtered cattle and poultry totaling 130,3 thous. ton.

The data above should have provided growth in livestock production and decrease in prices. However, contrary to expectations, a 3,6% growth for meat products was reported in August 2013 against last year's results.

At the same time, the meat products’ price rose by 0,2% in August against July results, with poultry meat price increasing by 0,3%, chicken legs - 0,3%, smoked sausage 1%, basturma (jerked meat) - 2,1%.

Also, a 1,6% drop was posted in mutton price, with beef price remaining unchanged. At retail outlets the price for 1 kg of beef, pork and mutton totals AMD 2600, 3500 and 3000 respectively.
