“The Mortal Instruments” fantasy sequel production to start next year

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes is to start production next year, Digital Spy said.

Production on the film was initially pushed back after its predecessor, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, underperformed at the U.S. box office.

However Constantin Film has confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that production on the sequel will go ahead, following greater success internationally.

Martin Moszkowicz, Constantin Film's head of film and TV, said that fans of the original novel by Cassandra Clare have given a positive response to the first movie.

He said: "The fan response, from the blogosphere and the thousands of mails we have received, has encouraged us to keep going. It's been overwhelmingly positive, in contrast to some other YA titles."

Moszkowicz added that the company had got the marketing wrong with the first film, saying: "We are analysing what we did wrong with the first film, particularly with the positioning and marketing, and what changes we have to make. We are working with a great group of people to reposition the franchise [for City of Ashes]."

He added: "The readers of Mortal Instruments are older than you might think. That may have been one issue in our marketing, that we focused too much on a very young audience segment."

Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Kevin Zegers, Robert Sheehan, Jemima West, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Sigourney Weaver are lined up to star in the sequel.
