Richard Gere to topline “Old Fires” indie dramedy

PanARMENIAN.Net - Anonymous Content’s family dramedy “Old Fires” is heating back up, as Golden Globe winner Richard Gere is now attached to star in the indie movie, TheWrap said.

Heather McGowan (“Tadpole”) wrote the script, which follows a world-renowned architect (Gere) who emerges from a coma in need of both physical and mental rehabilitation. With the help of his snarky female physical therapist, he tries to repair his damaged relationship with his children and win back his wife’s love.

Rosalie Swedlin will produce for Anonymous Content along with Caroline Kaplan. There is no firm start date in place.

Jonathan Demme became attached to direct in October 2012, when producers were planning a summer 2013 start date. The Oscar-winning filmmaker began lining up an impressive ensemble including Bryan Cranston, Jason Segel and Jennifer Ehle.

Ehle revealed in May via Twitter that “Old Fires” had been “indefinitely postponed,” hinting that the project was struggling to secure financing.

Gere, who won a Golden Globe for “Chicago” and received another nomination for “Arbitrage,” is currently filming Andrew Renzi’s directorial debut “Franny” with Dakota Fanning and Theo James. He’s also being eyed for a role in “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2.”
