The American-Greek soprano was born in New York City on December 2, 1923 and died on September 16, 1977 at the age of 53. One of the most famous opera singers of the 20th century, she was dubbed La Divina - the divine one - for her singing ability. Callas performed a range of operatic works, from pieces by Wagner in her early years to those by Donizetti, Bellini, Rossini, Verdi and Puccini.
