Facebook posts record quarterly results driven by mobile usage

PanARMENIAN.Net - Facebook has published its latest quarterly results, revealing that mobile usage now contributes to over half of its revenue, Digital Spy said.

53% of the social network's revenue came from mobile advertising in the last quarter of 2013, up 23% on the same period the year before.

Facebook's number of monthly active mobile users soared to almost one billion, helping the company achieve $2.34bn in advertising revenue across all platforms.

945 million members used the social network via mobile between October and December 2013, an increase from 680 million in the year-ago quarter.

Daily active users also produced healthy results, showing that 556 million accessed the service daily on average in December, marking a 49% increase on the same period in 2012.

Overall, Facebook made $1.5bn in profit for the whole of 2013, propelled by $7.87bn in revenue - an increase of 55% year-over-year.

"It was a great end to the year for Facebook," CEO Mark Zuckerberg said. "We're looking forward to our next decade and to helping connect the rest of the world."

Shares in Facebook increased by more than 10% in after-hours trading following the announcement of better than predicted results.

Across all platforms, Facebook claims it now has 757 million daily global users, growing by 22% on the year before.
