Samsung patents handwriting recognitionFebruary 17, 2014 - 14:09 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Samsung has filed a patent that could enable users to launch apps by writing on future Galaxy Note handsets, Digital Spy said. The South Korean smartphone maker has submitted plans to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a system which "verifies a user and executes applications via handwriting recognition". Galaxy Note 2 and the current Galaxy Note 3 already allow handset owners to unlock their device by writing their signature with an S Pen stylus on the lock screen. However, Samsung wants to take the technique further by recognising users' handwriting for more commands. An image attached to the document shows how you can write 'Call mum', which dials through without the need to select the contact. As with all patents, there's no guarantee Samsung will introduce the function on the Galaxy Note 4 or other future devices. A recent report claimed that the next-generation Galaxy Note could also be the company's first waterproof handset.
