“Homeland” star Damian Lewis joins Ewan McGregor in “Our Kind of Traitor”

Damian Lewis, who won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his work on Homeland, has joined the cast of Our Kind of Traitor, a spy thriller being directed by Susanna White, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgard and Naomie Harris are already on board the project, which is an adaptation of the novel by John le Carre. Hossein Amini wrote the screenplay.

The plot centers on an English couple vacationing in Antigua who become entangled in the dealings of a Russian mobster desperate to defect. Soon enough, the British Secret Service is involved and the suspense kicks in.

Lewis will play a member of British Intelligence.

Film4, Ink Factory and Potboiler Productions are behind Traitor, which begins shooting this month in London.

Lewis has been making his mark on television for the past several years with Homeland, the acclaimed Showtime show in which his character faced a dramatic death at the end of season three last year. He has a slew of upcoming film and television work.

He will play King Henry VIII in the upcoming BBC/Masterpiece miniseries adaptation of Wolf Hall opposite Mark Rylance. And he recently wrapped production on director Werner Herzog's Queen of the Desert in which he plays English war hero Lt. Col. Charles Doughty-Wylie opposite Nicole Kidman.
