Samsung "developing smartwatch capable of calls, data without a phone"May 24, 2014 - 11:21 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Samsung is reportedly developing a new smartwatch that will be able to make calls and receive data without connecting to a nearby smartphone. As Digital Spy said citing The Wall Street Journal, the South Korean firm could reveal its latest wrist tech in June or July and has already opened talks with networks in the US, South Korea and Europe. The smartwatch will allegedly be capable of making and receiving calls, using GPS and "at least" be able to send emails with its own SIM card. It is claimed that Tizen will run the device as opposed to Google's new Android Wear operating system, while a camera and heart-rate monitor are also said to be on board. Samsung already has several smartwatches in the market - including Gear Fit, Galaxy Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo - but none of them are capable of calls and data without tethering to a smartphone. Earlier this week, a report revealed that Samsung is currently leading the way in smartwatch sales, having sold just under half a million devices in the first quarter of 2014.
